I live in a small apartment, so space is not plentiful. I don't want to have a gigantic stockpile of stuff that will take me years to use, even if I can get things for free. So, if I already have a ton of something, I won't get more of it unless it's something I use all the time or if it's something I can get for free and can donate or give away.
The same rule applies in general. I often see deals where I can get items for free or very cheap. If it's easy enough to get, I might go for it, but only if I will use the item myself or know someone who can. I don't usually get things just because they're free (even though it's tempting!).
